Wake on Demand

Snow Leopard makes it possible to access a sleeping Mac over the network if you are running a compatible Airport Base Station or Time Capsule. This is very handy then your home Mac is at sleep, and you need to access files on it from another portable Mac. All you need to do is to enable “Wake for network access” in the Energy Saver preferences panes. Make sure File Sharing is enabled as well on the Mac you want to access.

NB: On portables this feature only works when connected to a power source. Your computer will wake up briefly to renew its network settings.
