Spell checking on Snow Leopard

Post image for Spell checking on Snow Leopard

For many years I have relied on cocoAspell as the spell checker on my mac. But the application has not been updated for several years, and can from time to time cause problems. But this has all come to a change on Snow Leopard. Apple has provided us with a built in spell checker. But what can I do, if my language is not included with the system?
As Faroese is my native tongue, my only option is www.speling.org. The page has dictionaries for several of the Scandinavian Countries. For Faroese you need to download the raw dictionary file for Open Office. Unpack it, and put it in Macintosh HD/Users/[name]/Library/Spelling, and select it in the new text preferences panel. Now you are ready to use the new dictionary!
