As Apple has announces that Flash will never enter the iPhone/iPod or the new iPad, you can try how the web will look without flash. Install ClickToFlash and browse better/faster than ever the Web. If you are on a laptop your computer will have longer battery life also. The future of the web is HTML5. You can read more about HTML5 in this article in Smashing Magazine and see a demonstration of a HTML5 based video player at Jilion. There is an excellent article over at TUAW about this subject. The future is now!

I am a big fan of the Thesis Theme for Wordpress, but I am no coder, so I have looked for another solution for WordPress for people who don’t want to code. I came across the Headway Themes and wanted to give it a try.
I was really impressed with how you graphically can change the layout in real-time and drag elements around on the page. This reminded me of good old days when the GoLive web-editor was in it’s heights! You have to see it to believe it!
At the moment I can see one drawback from Thesis, the theme is not localizable! I am sure the developer will come up with a solution to this.
I also got a bit confused on how to use the visual editor, but after watching this introduction on how to use Headway it cleared up a bit. You can also watch some training videos on YouTube on how to use Headway. I will keep you posted on my progress with the Headway Theme for WordPress.

NB: There is an excellent quick start guide over at the Art of Blog and many Headway customizations to get inspired from.

As a WordPress user I am always in lack of localizable themes. One theme that I like, and that has all the basic functionality a webpage needs to have today is the F2 theme. I have made a Faroese frontend translation of it. It is included in version 1.0.8 of the F2 theme. You can download it here.

WhatSize.png

Have you ever wondered where all your free space went on your Mac? It is time-consuming to hunt down those big files taking up all your space manually. To help in this process I have particular found these two utilities handy when it comes to recover lost space on my drive. WhatSize a shareware app and the free Omnidisksweeper.

It is also possible to use the Finder to search for big files. Just create a New Smart Folder in the menu in Finder with these settings:

Then it is easy to find all the big files taking up space on your drive.

apple_mighty_mouse.jpg

One problem with Apples Mighty Mouse is the scroll ball not working after extensive usage. Usually it is possible to clean it, but this can be difficult. Compressed air and double sided tape can be useful as well for cleaning. On how to clean it read more here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1537

For a QuickTime movie demonstration, click here (the movie is approximately 600 KB).

Unfortunately Apples iCal does not include a way to show week numbers. So if You need to add week numbers to iCal, there is an easy way to do this. There is a php script available that calculates week numbers and outputs a .ics file ready to import into iCal. If You don’t want to run the script, I have generated iCal week number for 2010 available for download here.

Wake on Demand.png

Snow Leopard makes it possible to access a sleeping Mac over the network if you are running a compatible Airport Base Station or Time Capsule. This is very handy then your home Mac is at sleep, and you need to access files on it from another portable Mac. All you need to do is to enable “Wake for network access” in the Energy Saver preferences panes. Make sure File Sharing is enabled as well on the Mac you want to access.

NB: On portables this feature only works when connected to a power source. Your computer will wake up briefly to renew its network settings.
